Hi, I did repair a leaky o ring on the engine side of the KSB and that went well. Then when it started it was clattery, and the white smoke that smelled almost like gasoline in the fuel was present. I filled the tank with fresh #2, 24 gallons and it was getting quieter, and smoking a lot less. After about 10 miles or so I thought I would give some go pedal. I wasn't over-speeding the engine, as it was just starting to build some boost and then as if I turned the key off it died, no bucking, no jerking, no smoke, just died.
I have fuel on top of the filter on the manifold bleed thing. I have a solenoid pick (I tapped it to be sure the plunger was moving). The manual kill is snapping to run position. I do not have any hi pressure at my injectors, maybe lift pump pressure. Hard to believe a VE pump would do that to me. Or should I look somewhere else? Where would a good source of a VE pump be? Thanks for your help, Artie

Just throwing this out there.... when I pulled the gear I was sure not to damage the seal, and it "looked" good. When this happenned I did have the KSB energized to see if I wanted more timing, could the seal blowed out on acct. of higher internal IP pressure? And if so would this do a sudden shut down? and perhaps put some more engine oil on the dipstick?

A leak in an injection pump seal should cause a fuel leak since it's all under pressure.

It sounds an awful lot like an air leak.

I agree, if the fuel is leaking into the crankcase, I would only know by a higher level on the dipstick.
I don't know the internal pressure in the I.pump supplied by the lift pump. 6 to 8 lbs I'm guessing. I do have fuel pressure in the supply line to the IP. I thinking that I'll pull the timing cover and check my dowel pin, mark and pull the IP gear, just wondering about resealing the front oil seal. I pulled it a while with the injector lines open and little to no fuel. I don't know where the air lock would be?
Does a VE pump need lift pump pressure or would they work just bathed in fuel? I do not know the history of this truck as I bought it non-running.

I guess if the IP doesn't turn it can't give hi-pressure, I found a keyway gone. Does anyone know what size this rascal is, or if I can go to the hardware and buy one? Thanks, Artie
