Ok, I've looked around and didn't see a difinitive answer anywhere. Truck in sig, 1992 W350 getrag. Will it be equipped with a Dana 70, a Dana 70u or a Dana 70HD? Also, it's a 4:10 ratio. Why are there so many places out there selling 4:11 for this truck? Thanks!

Oops, it's a 3.54 ratio. I was think of my old CJ when I said 4.10. Anyhow, pulled the cover off and much to my dismay, there are 2 teeth sitting in the bottom of the case. They came off the pinion. So I guess my next question...... looks like I'm in the market for a 3.54 gear set. Do all three Dana 70 diffs use the same ring and pinion set? What is the going rate to have this done? If the price is too high, I'll teach myself how to do it(how's that for being tight!). Thanks again guys.

 

yours is a 70u. hd's only came in some chassis cab and box van's, ups package cars. yeas all dana 70 gears are the same. the od of the inner pinion bearing it different between a u & hd. the id is the same.

 

I thought 70u referred to the Dana 71 w/3.07's?

 

nope, 70u is the "light duty" version of it. that's what you have.

the pinion bearings are smaller, gears and all else is the same.

 

Well I guess while I wait for my ring and pinion to get here, I'll weld up the exhaust, beat on the turbo housing some more, disconnect my ABS box, clean the AC element, and install the hide-a-ball. All the things I've been putting off because it's 1000 degrees outside.
