Question intercooler options

what's out there? whats good or bad by experience?

read on using a powerstroke IC with some minow mods, what years?

and what cost for new/used.. doing some research.

the cheaper the more I can upgrade everything else, just dont want complete junk. rebuilding my front end damage body wise will be dirt cheap, the only real expense will be this part. I havnt found any stock ones for sale yet.

think I will throw some bigger injectors in 5x16 most likely and upgrade turbo to match.

I just stripped a early 2002 Super duty that had plastic end tanks on the intercooler. Don't know if all the 02's had plastic, but I wouldn't want that. Btw, just figurin out photobucket here, and I accidently posted a pic of my custom IC on top of the home page. $40 into it so far, had to chop 5 or 6 inches off the bottom and reweld the tanks. Still got a couple pinholes to seal up. 47" - 3" - 18 1/2". May require a little trimming to fit.

Aside from high dollar custom and aftermarket stuff, 7.3 Powerstroke cooler w/aluminum end tanks is the best option for an I/C'd 1st Gen upgrade:

Minimal cutting, trimming and some custom bracketry is all that's needed to stuff it in there:

I picked that one up off eBay for $300. They can be had for less.

Check your local recycling yards - the ones that advertise they have parts for all trucks...
Find a 99 - 01 7.3 PS...

I just got one for $125 + 90 day guarantee - -only had to clean out the oil the engine or turbo spit into it.
Almost 1/2 qt

The three PS IC's I seen were oily, must be fairly common,. Nothing a rinse with gas won't fix, just let it dry up before installing it.
