alot of guys see 1400 plus all the time. they say a cummins is rated to do 1250 for an unlimited amount of time IIRC. if i bury the throttle i can see more than 1400 no problem. but i owouldnt worry too much about that unless you have heavy fueling. i think doing 70 im at about 800 degrees or so. i idle at about 375 alone if that helps

Mine stays on the peg at 1500* during WOT runs and takes a few seconds to come down. Its like holding a torch to a piece of metal, sure the torch is hot as hell but it takes some time for the metal to come up to the same temp. I would not hold anything more then 1250* for more then a few seconds though.
The best place to measure is in the exhaust manifold.

thats a good question mine has stock injectors and turbo and 300,000 on it m&h 5 fuel pin fuel screw turned in as far it will go afc deleted and spring on top of afc diaphram keeping the fuel pin pushed all the way to the bottom went to oklahoma the begining of last month loaded a fully loaded 1983 chevy 1 ton dually 16 ft flatbed and every little hill or grade had to stay out of it because of high egts and overheatig problems and 13 mpg is what i averaged and to me that sucks mileage not so bad but to much fuel and not enough turbo to help keep my egt,s down so it runs better empty now but anything behind it it sucks
