need help truck smokes bad

my lift pump is a stock style diaphram pump. will a lp piston pump supply enough fuel for most all mods for a dd truck or should i start thinking about a electric pump.

well all back together and still not running right.
pump shop retested the ip and it is back to factory spec.
newest symptom it will not rev over 1000 rpm's white smoke all the time

so i installed a guage in the banjo bolt and only have 2 psi after the filter. @ 700 rpm.

would a lift pump cause all this trouble.

Maybe as simple as the fuel filter, have you changed it recently. If not it may be the lift pump. Maybe someone else can answer you better but Ive seen things like that on a big truck with stopped up fuel filters

filter was changed less than 60 miles ago at the begining of the trouble shooting.

to go over this new injectors 5x12, new filter napa, tested pump zero timing. 2psi lift pump, hazing @700 rpm won't rev past 1000 rpm,

when I tried to rev it up the piro jumped to 600 degrees and it never did that before.
good news it starts like a dream.

wateching this close, mine did this to me once on the way to work. same symptoms. started it at lunch and same thing. started at the end of the day and ran fine.....

It is most likely a poor fuel supply issue, go to an electric LP, or acquire the low pressure piston LP.
You can even use a 2nd gen piston LP, if you regulate it to under 20 PSI.

The white smoke you see is essentially unburned fuel, which SEEMS contradictory, but really isn't.
If the injection pump is not getting fuel, or has a leaky fuel supply, it will oftentimes push air in with the fuel, which cools the fuel charge and fouls combustion, causing the white smoke and raw fuel smell.
Water in the fuel tends to cause similar reactions, because it cools the charge.
A diesel is fairly sensitive to combustion temps.

You should also check your fuel supply connections, drawing air will confound the LP, make it pump inefficiently, as well as add air into the system.

That this issue came on, more or less, all at once leads me to think your lift pump shot craps.
You may have had subtle warnings and not recognized it, like crisp throttle response at one point, then kinda' flat and unresponsive the next time, then nice and responsive again.
Supply pump issues 9 times out of 10 will show up under hard, heavy pulling, or extended high speed/high RPM driving.

2 PSI supply pressure at 700 RPMs isn't squat.

Well if you cant fix your smoking truck you could sell it to one of these kids on here thats always asking how to make their truck smoke...

definitely sounds like a fuel pressure issue. 2 psi will not only make it run like crap but it will also kill your IP real fast. get a new lift pump at the very least

you guys crack me up!

I ordered a piston lift pump today.
why don't vendor put together lift pump kits for us, why should i have to come up with cummins part numbers for everything! this conversion have been around a long time for our trucks!
