Default HX35?

I recently got a line one a bunch of wrecked Cummins trucks that a guy is parting out. I am considering ditching the H1C in favor of an HX35, hoping that the smaller exhaust housing(12cm right?) eat up some of the lag I've got. I am wondering if this will make a $100 difference in response or performance or... anything else? is it a worthwhile change?

I believe there are a couple HX40's out there too, but i dont think id be moving the fuel to spin one of them right?(and the 35 looks like it will take the same downpipe ive already got?)

any advice would be appreciated, thanks

the hx35 is a good turbo .. its what im running but if your gonna juice up the pump and or do anything else to the truck to make more smoke (which equals heat) i would go with the hx40 but thats just me

and yes they either have the 12cm housing or the 14cm housing if im not mistaken

also with the hx40 your gonna havta run new exhaust.... wow i just read your sig umm ya hx40 will be better for you

it is definitely worth the 100 dollar upgrade. dont go with an hx40 theres much better turbos out there in the same price range.

Before i get too carried away with the 20 questions thing that keeps this thread going on for weeks, is there a reference or table anywhere that will show me what the specs are on each of these 3 turbo's throughout a few years of the Dodge truck applications and which parts are interchangeable between any of them(compressor/exhaust housing etc.)?

The only difference between the I/C'd H1C and the HX35 from the 2nd Gens is the 12cm wastegated ex housing. They are both 56mm impellers. But since you have the baby H1C (non-I/C'd - 54mm) it would be a decent upgrade.

The non I/C'd 1st Gens are the only good candidates for an HX35 upgrade. Just be aware of the possible EGT issue with the smaller ex housing. Personally, I'd recommend the HX40 and a new downpipe, especially if you are turning up the pump. You'll have plenty of fuel to spool it with the pump turned up as long as it's a 16cm ex housing.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you dirtydozen, but mines a 93 i/c and no pin mod (yet) I'm not going for much over 200 horse and I don't pull anything heavy, but I hate that lag. I'm leaning towards a hx40 just in case I do go for more power down the road. Will the hx40 spool quicker than a h1c on a stocker with a couple turns of the screw? Sorry about the thread hijack!!!

I think you would need a little more fuel than you can get out of the stock I/C'd injectors to spool a 40.

Someone with an hx40 with a 16cm ex housing said it spooled just as fast as the hx35 with a 16cm ex housing. that was with large injectors but very mild pump setting.

NadirPoint- Are you the truck in my diesel magazine that made 303 (ish) hp with pods and a 60mm turbo?
