Default 3 speed no overdrive

i have a 91 with an auto without overdrive. are these trannies pretty stout? my plans are to put a 3 speed brownlipe behind it 20%under, direct, 20%over. and already installed the 4.10 dually rearend. is the tranny going to hold up to a lot of pulling and if not what do i need to do to it to tote the load. i regularly haul 10 tons not counting trailer.

IMO i dont think these trannys are very stout at all. i believe a non OD is stronger as the OD unit is a weak link. but the torque converter and valve body are the notorious weak links. but if your hauling 10 tons regularly i wouldnt trust the 727 but thats just MY opinion.

Hauling 10 tons regular I would not truck any light truck tranny for very long.

With a few modifications the 727 in the 1st gens is a VERY stout tranny as far as autos go. The converter is alot better then the 518 converter but still could use a upgrade.
