Default Clutch

Okay fellas well tiss time for a new clutch. My question is, with my mods, will a 400 hp. single disk southbend clutch work alright. I dont do any pullin and will tow every once in a while but nothin major. Usually just the ol boat or a salvage car. open for suggestions and for anyone who has bought the same clutch, how does it feel? (engage real fast, jerky etc...)

i have a southbend 0090 clutch i think it ran around 375 shipped or so. mightydiesel had the best price and got it to me like the next day from standard shipping. i have about the same mods as you maybe just a tad more power.

it engages very smoothly, holds the power very nice, and does not chatter at all. i would highly reccomend it for a lower budget performance clutch

thanks for the reply. what hp. rating is that clutch. also is it a 13" disk or 12.25 or whatever the stock size is. And im guessing that is without a new flywheel.

well i called south bend today to see what they recomended and was told to get a clutch rated for 475 hp. and 1000 torque. i think that is kinda high for my power. Do you guys think im at 400 hp. with my mods and a stock turbo? i push 30 pounds of boost and hit about 1200-1400 max egts. Am i at 400 hp or is that maybe just SBC tryin to milk me a little?

well if your at 400hp i must well be over that when i had my ve pump but i didnt think i was. i think the 475 hp clutch is way overkill. it held every bit of the power i gave it on the 0090 clutch and it was half the cost

475 flywheel hp is probably how they rate them... 20% loss from the drivetrain is probably a decent estimate and thats what, 380 rwhp? maybe they arent too far off with a 475hp clutch.
