make sure you drain the oil and refill it by a quart thats about it

your probably going to have to put it in through the top of the shift cover not the side hole, because if you use the side hole, itll pour out before you can overfill it

you can use an elbow on the drain plug to make it a higher fill level. also the shifter is a major pain in the a$$. even said it was and well i experienced it toady. if you do so make sure you have a strong buddy to hold that sucker when putting it back in.

its not bad at all on the tranny. its the best thing you can do to help solve the 5th gear lubrication problems

our trannys seem to be tilted back too far or something like that and it starves some parts of them from getting enough oil.... so you fill them about a quart overfull and that helps to keep everything lubed, thats what i have been told

you are correct for MOST transmissions. the getrag is an exception its just a design flaw by getrag

Its a proven common practice for the getrag. I know its against basic mech principles but its the best way to make them live.

i believe its because the transmission was engineered without the thought of the angle it sits in the cummins/dodge trucks. that angle makes it impossible to fill it to the proper level without running out of the fill plug so you can use the PTO top bolt cover to fill it. i had to buy a 3 dollar kerosene pump from rural king, it didnt fit in the hole so i took a lighter to the tip of it and shrunk it down until it fit in the PTO bolt hole. cheap and simple i think. it takes about 10 minutes to do it all if you have everything. i used 5 quarts of 5w-30 synthetic from Mobile1.
