Cool Cummins into 1983 Chevy 1ton Dually

Those of you who have swapped in a 1st gen Cummins into a Chevy truck with the hydro boost brake system, have any of you utilized the existing cummins power steering pump to power up the chevy hydro brake booster and power steering box on the chevy with positive results?

there is a little diagram for you. orange hoses are pressure hoses.

for your other hoses, i just used fuel line and hose clamps with a y adapter for the return. works great and no problems!

tltruckparts,
1. Did you have to swap power steering pumps or did the original Dodge power steering pump have adequate capacity to handle the hydroboost?

2. Did you fabricate your own pressure hoses? If so, where did you buy the hoses and what kind of clamps / fittings you used?

Thanks,
Ed

I used the stock cummins one. First I T'd the return, but the power steering was sucking so I brazed another return onto the reservoir.

It works. I wouldn't say its amazing, but I've got a lot of other things going on. The only real problem i have is my idle is so low I don't have much for steering when not on the pedal.

Thanks for the reply. Did you notice any braking improvement over the old system.

Also, I understand that the newer model Dodges use hydroboost braking. I wonder if their power steering pumps put out more output and if we could use it on our trucks.
