Default speedometer problems

My truck is a 1992 cc drw Manual trans. I tried searching but got answers that said my truck doesnt have a cable. Well my truck has a cable coming out of the gertrag trans. I have a new cable that the previous owner gave to me. Was going to install it todat but I cant find where it goes throough the firewall. The prvious owner disconected it in the engine compartment. Can anyone help?

Thanks Matt

i have a 1991 getrag and it uses a vehicle speed sensor (vss) ive seen quite a few cummins trannys over time and never once have i seen one with a cable

on the 2wd its located right at the back of the tailshaft or right around there. and on a 4wd its on the transfer case. got any pics? and is it a factory speedometer or aftermarket?

sounds to me like the speedo went out before and somebody put a cable on it thinking that would work to fix it and then left it tied up under the hood. you could take the dash out and see if it still has the factory electic plugs on the back of the speedo. i have never seen one first gen with a cable it should have the vss on it
