Default Transmission Swap

Anyone done a A518 to NV4500 swap in their cummins? im getting one in about 2 weeks and just looking for a good write up or some good info on the swap.

Also wandering, it doesn't have the clutch pedel and cable, where can I get that from? Also can I use the starter on my A518 or do I have to get one for the NV4500?(came off a 97' Cummins 2wd).

You need the adaptor plate (plate between the engine and tranny) and starter from the 2nd gen. You will need the clutch assembely and all related parts also from a 1st gen.

Make SURE it includes the adaptor plate, it is a totally different part then the bell housing, most tranny dont come with it.

few things that pop out at me... Things that make me say stay away...

We had a customer that was making 6-700hp out of a Cummins, Towed a 25,000 lb trailer
Don't see anyone towing 25,000lbs with that much power... You would need some HUGE (read laggy) turbos to keep that thing cool.

Power Capacity: 800 ft-lbs of torque, 800 HP
So which is it? 800hp is about 1600ft/lbs and 800 ft.lbs is about 400hp...'

The earliest version of the RH trans did not have a lockup converter In 94 a lockup converter was introduced tote RH
The pre-94 trannys were not lock-up trannys...

I would stay away, they obviously do not know diesel trannys... Do it once, do it right. Go with a name brand proven builder.

You will find all sorts of little things while doing it. But you have teh basics! Get a GOOD clutch while you are doing it. No point in pulling it out twice!

One thing I thought of, your auto has a flex plate that will not work with you new manual, you need a flywheel from the donor truck.
