Anybody know first gens like the back of their hand near Lansing MI? I Wanna pay someone to mod my truck. I need to tow up to 20,000 lbs (for real) Need pulling power and stopping power. And it would be nice to go fast, blow smoke and have some fun with it too.

So, what exactly is your deal? Are you overwhelmed by the work to do, bombing your rig, or is it a time issue? Because if you're just skeered, you've got nothing to worry about, being a member of this site. Plus the advantage of doing it yourself is if something goes wrong on the road or what not you'll probably know what's up. The first gen CTD is a pretty simple machine to work on. I'm borderline brain dead and ride around in a smoke breathing beast that was bone stock a few months ago. And this is the first diesel I've ever lifted the hood on. Good luck, dude.

 

You are crazy for towing that much weight. Way to hard on the truck.

A good towing set up would be a super HX40 turbo or a 62mm S300, 3200 spring, some 370 or 435 injectors, a good clutch, a M2 fuel pin, and 4" exhaust.

Good mod for towing 20,000lbs... Get a medium duty truck and keep yourself and everyone else on the road safe.

 

I own a roofing company and i have a 20 yard rolling 3 axle dumpster. I have had 19,000 lbs in her and its just hard to get up hills with my ford v10 excursion thats why i bought this truck. Also can i put a jake brake or something similar on my truck too?

sounds like we're alike I could do brakes or somthing simple but the pump sounds and looks kinda tricky. Or is it easier than it seems?

 

You towed 19,000 lbs with an Excursion!??? Dang. You have custom seats to accomidate the huge set of nuts required for that?

 

the trailer tows great its just a little hard getting started. usually just about 14-15 k though.

 

Sorry, I didn't see your double post. Yeah, if you can do brakes you could easily tweek your pump. If you have dexterity in your wrist and can turn a screwdriver you'll be allright. I'll get some threads and a link or two up that'll walk you through it but... GET GAUGES FIRST. Pyrometer, and boost and fuel preasure.

 

also should i purchase a whole new turbo or just that 16cm housing? got about 2 k to invest got gauges not installed yet though
