Default just got a 1991 12v what is the best first mod?

i was also told to keep it to one 3 in pipe on these for they need more back pressure is this true?

Not true. 4 inch from turbo back is the way to go. Makes cooler Exhaust Gas Temps.

exactly how stock is this truck? unchoke the factory 3" exhaust and run withit from there... gauges are a MUST as anyone else will tell you

completely stock 145,000 miles 5 speed and this truck is very slow right now. i've got some money what to do first?

First we need to know if it is intercooled or not. '91 was a split year, the first half were Non I/C, the latter were I/Ced.

Before you do anything, you need gauges. Boost, pyro, and fuel pressure.

I always suggest preventative maintenance first. Has the Killer dowel pin been slain yet? Thats what I did first to my 91.5 because that can leave you on the side of the road. Next would be guages, then exhaust, then better intake, then mess with the pump and timeing for free power (more fuel). 3200 gsk is the best $20 I've spent on the truck. See how well you like it from there

Definitely get some gauges and when I got mine i went through and changed all the fluids just so I knew what I had. The 3200 governor spring like cumminsfreak said is a must and only a 20 dollar investment. There's all kinds of directions and drawings of how to tweak the pump on here in this section.
