hmm... Is it the stock tranny or has a NV4500 been swapped in? Usually teh no 5th gear is an 4500 problem. Anything can be fixed. Worst case a new tranny will be needed so figure that into how mucg you pay for the truck!

Does it make any noise? Will it go in at all? How about with the truck off?

I've never heard of a Getrag loosing 5th like that. Could be in the linkage, could be the gear. I guess it all depends on what he is asking for the truck.

Thats not a horible price. Expect to pay $1,000-$1,500 for a good used tranny. On teh other hand it could be something stupid simple thats wrong. You could also rebuild the tranny it has for less.

Parts are available but G360s are getting scarce. Unless you're doing it yourself, a rebuild is likely to be botched by anyone not well-experienced with them. Getting the bearings preloaded right is critical - even the factory screwed it up. I'd hold out for 3500 and look for a good tranny guy that knows Getrags if you do buy it.
