run time
Just wondering if someone can tell me how many hours of run time a person should do between oil changes, I purchased a tiny tach which keeps track of the time as well as the rpm. So I figure I'll go by time instead of mileage, bye the way I'm really happy with this tach, and the install couldn't have been easier.
thanks for the input phil

no idea about hours... good to hear your pleased with it... may look into one but; to get a rough idea... run your truck to your normal service interval... write down the hours and get an oil analysis... when you get the results it'll let ya know how broken down the oil is; and actually a pretty in depth look at what's goin on inside the engine... then adjust your hours accordingly... say by 3000 miles you have 50 hours on the engine and 20% left to the oil. thats and extra 600 miles before you actually need to change your oil... if all else fails call komatsu and find out what their service interval is... they have the 5.9 in a certain model of excavator

x2 diesels were designed for heavy applications and work loads. not idling. from my fuels class we were told that diesels werent intended to idle over 5 mins at a time. cold start up you let them idle for 5 mins or so and then light work load, dont romp on them until operating temps...
