Default im tired of this POS automatic

i just had my A518 rebuilt...shift kit, converter and was told it should be more than enough for my truck which runs around 300hp. now, six months later it is already slipping. what would it take too convert it to a nv4500 or getrag. if someone could please give me a list of what i would need, approx price and if it is even worth the touble. i would really like to keep the price around 2000 if i could.

I think your going to be hard pressed to get a 4500 swap for $2000, MAYBE a getrag, The best option would be to buy a totaled truck and swap everything. Your going to need the tranny, a new cross member (I think), the pedal assembly, the linkages, master and slave cylinder, clutch (no point in putting a used one in) and pressure plate, the adaptor plate off the donor. I'm sure there is other little things in there. What convertor did you put in you truck when it was rebuilt? I have alot of abuse at higher power then you (racing, pulling) and my Goerend has not even blinked an eye at me!

Sounds like a bad rebuild or used bad parts.

Do you have a Goerend transmission or just a converter?

Just the convertor, the tranny was built by a local that builds 727's for drag cars, REALLY fast drag cars, with all top the line parts he had extras of, He said that internally the diesel and gas 727's are exactly the same except for teh input and the govoner for the VB. We used an extra gasser Reverse Manual VB he had and it works great.

Default 92 518 transmission problems

lost transmission while pulling tri axel equipment trailer (empty) did not have od locked out. transmission rebuilt by former mopar tech. now in buisness for himself. large ball bearing in the overdrive was done for. was told all lines were cleaned and new cooler installed along with converter and clutches. 13 months later transmission goes down again and this time same bearing was down and metal shavings all over the pan. od pulled and bearing replaced again, changed fluid after about 3 months driving and pan was clean. i don't pull anything with it now as i can't afford the expense. can a later model xmission be installed with a lock up converter? thanks for any feed back.

Yes a later model can be swaped in.... But it will still need to be rebuilt. the key is a good Converter and not teh crap one that dodge puts in them.

alright another problem with the tranny. when it moves in reverse at much more than an idle it acts like it wants to fight itself and go back into drive, and when it is in neutral it acts like it is still in gear but slipping really bad.
