Are all the first gen 5-speeds getrags or do some have the nv4500? I found a 1993 ctd w/ a bad 5-speed. I would like to know what it would cost to get her goin.

 

I have heard rumors that some nv's got in the late 93's. I have a 93 built in July of 93 and its a rag. As far as I know they all were rags. Look up ZBAG on ebay. I think they are Zumbrota or something similar. They sell rebuild kits for the getrag. It should be the G360 tranny. If you crawl under the truck on one side or the other ( don't remember which ) the word "GETRAG" will be embossed in the tranny casting. You will have to get in to the tranny to know for sure whats wrong. I have heard the shift forks can get screwed up as well as input shafts ect. You won't know til you look in it.

 

Thank you I will have to look at it. You think the truck is worth $500? It has less than 200,000 miles and body is in rough to fair condition (old farm truck)

 

If you pulled the engine you could get a quick 800 to a grand as long as it checked out ok. Also someone would buy the tranny, and all associated parts for another few hundred. Lots of guys want to do conversions and need stuff like pedals, flywheel exc. You get the point. It is worth 500 all day long.
