Wiper Issues…STILL
Before I start you should know I did do a search for this issue going back as far as 2010.
This might get lengthy but I’ll try to keep it short.
For several years now (like 3) my wipers have worked..if they felt like it when I turned them on. Sometimes they worked for hours…sometimes a swipe or two.
in that time I’ve replaced the motor twice, and the multifunction switch once. Neither one helped. Oh…and just to be on the safe side of things somewhere in there I replaced the original linkage bushings too.
Fast forward to last week. Turned on the wipers and as usual they just weren’t in the mood to wipe. 1/2 sweep and they stopped.
Now…I’ve got it torn down to parade rest. Replaced the motor, the multifunction switch, AND the intermittent control module up under the dash.
Last night I had it all connected and tested it…worked great! Until today when I went to check that it was in the park position so I reconnected the linkage then turned it on.
Almost immediately the fuse blew. I’ve spent ALL DAY today following every wire using an ohm meter AND checking voltages from switch to motor connector to module. 3 different modules actually since I have no way to know if one is good or not).
Well everything appeared normal. So I hooked up the motor…again.
Soon as I turned the motor on…the fuse blew again.
Now I suspect the new motor may be bad as it worked until I connected the linkage and tried to make sure it was in the home position. Maybe it was weak and burned up trying to move the linkage? I know the linkage is free cuz I can move it easily by hand.
I ohmed out the motor from pin to the motor case. Both the high and the low pins are shorted to the case. The supply voltage pin and the intermittent pin are not, BUT…they ARE shorted together.
That brings me to my first question…IS THE MOTOR BAD?
Secondly…How do I tell if the module is good or bad?
