Im wantn to swap my 89 dakota 3.9 6cyl. 4speed auto to diesel. But i dont know what size to get nor the transmission and conponents to do it. Please help mee



Ps. I also dont know where to get the engine and tranny

 

find an old bread truck on craigslist with the 4bt cummins in it and take out everything you will need for the swap

 

Will the mounts from the 3.9 line up or will i need new mounts

 

I highly doubt anything will bolt up in your Dakota. I think you will need to use the engine crossmember from the donor truck that you end up buying, plan on extensive fabricating as I am sure your frame rails are much narrower. Also consider the enormous weight difference of even a 4bt, let alone a 6bt. You will need to figure out how you plan to deal with that. I would suggest a solid axle front swap if you intend it to be 4 wheel drive. This sounds like a killer project, I hope to see some pics!
