Default Grille swap

I am doing a piece by piece restoration of sorts on the old Dodge and I really like the look of the newer '92/93 grille. I am wondering, have any of you have tried to fit the newer grille into the mid 80's trucks? Mine is an '88 so it has the plain square gray plastic grille. It looks like a pretty much direct swap and the outlines look the same, but I'm a little gunshy to just buy one. Any thoughts?

Have any friends with one, that would be the best way to tell with no money involved.

Haha I prefure the older grills, the 92-93 grills are sucky plastic pieces of ****. The chrome peels , they crack easy, and they are pretty expensive. I've always wondered if any of the older grills would mount to my truck with the intercooler. I really like the 1979 with the double headlight and it's metal

Won't work without modding the support or using a early 91 rad support.

Thanks that's all good info. I figured it would "fit" but the mounting holes in the core support were my main concern. And your right, scrapping my aluminum grille for a plated plastic one would be a bit of a shame.

The body on my truck is from an 87 w250 because the original 91 body was two tone...blue and rust..it was bad...the 91 grille fit on no problem

Look closer at that 78ish, and I think that bodystyle is alltogether different. The fenders are more rounded and they lack the creased body line at the top. The marker lights appear to mount in the body, and not the grille. I would love to see someone put that grille in a newer truck, but I say no way it bolts right in.
