Throwing some hp through a Getrag????
I was wanting to get yalls opinon on how much hp i should feel comprtable with running through my getrag. I am going to start a full motor rebuld in january and wanting to put as much horse power though that getrag that i can.... I have just finished rebuilding it with new input shaft, 3rd gear, sleeves, syncros, bearings nearly everything... and running lucas 75w-90 full synthetic in it, with a valair 650 clutch, rest of the drive train is stock. I am just wondering whats a semi-safe hp rating to shoot for at the flywheel. My inital goal was 550 at the wheels, but Im thinking 400 at the flywheel will be the most I can go with out having to get the nv4500.... reason for keeping the getrag is I want to try and keep it close to original its being fully restored, just needs some *****. all input is appreciated! thanks

Not much horse power should be expected, cause the G-Rag was not designed to handle much torque at all, IMO, get a NV4500 or a NV5600 if you want one to last longer and upgrade a NV4500 or a NV5600. IMO.

I don't believe the Getrag was designed to handle anything above stock horsepower or torque.

I called alligator performance and they said 400 at flywheel should be my max.... but ive heard of ppl running more than that is why im asking, also the getrag spec for oil is 5w-30 but not filled enough, this causes to much heat without the right amount of oil for it to dissipate in, and eventually causes tranny failure, so you either overfill it by a quart.

I have heard they called it a Getrag 360 because it was only designed to handle 360 Ft. Lbs. of torque. That's it.

What you do past that, including me and it holds together is luckiness and that's it.
