Default A518 Temp Sensor

I changed the trans fluid in my auto last night, and had a bright idea. In putting in gauges the other day i planned to just T into the trans lines with the new sensor. However, I discovered last night that the IISPRO sensor will screw right into the factory sensor location.

Its my understanding that the factory sensor is there only to kick the trans out of overdrive at a certain temp. Is this correct? It serves no other function?

If in fact it doesn't, then I should be able to just disconnect it permanently, and use that location for my ISSPRO gauges sensor correct?

What say you?

As far as I know, all it does is send an over temp signal back to kick it out of o.d. I was having a problem with the o.d. kicking in and out, so I bypassed the sensor. It never showed any other side effects, and the o.d. problem went away.
