I am rebuilding my 1989 cummins for a destroyed project, is that foam cover that goes on the tappet cover do anything useful? Or does it dampen noise? Seems like it holds old i'll that will drip from time

Cork gasket? I'd lose it, if its just a cover.

Man, I just don't remember it on my Dad's '89, but then again, I wasn't as into them as I am now and it was over 15 years ago he had his.
