Default upgrade turbo to HX35W?

Hi, I'm new here. Nice site! I have a 93 cummins that is running loaded all the time. I have a big camper on it and i use it to pull my race car trailer. The mods are listed in my sig. It has 140,000 miles on the stock injectors, and I figured they must be worn out by now. So I just ordered some rebuilt bosch injectors that are 5 x .012, and I am adding 4" exhaust. EGT's can get way high, especially on a long uphill pull.
What I want to accomplish is better mileage towing, less smoke, especially when leaving from a stop, and lower EGTs. Extra power would be a bonus, but it does fine the way it is.

So would swapping an HX35w assembly into my exising 16cm non-wastegated exhoust housing be a good step? I see these for sale on ebay by the ricers, and they claim "twing scroll"60 mm". I am assuming that is a good thing? Or is there a better choice. I am short on time before my next trip, so I am looking for something easy and fast if I do it now, or I can wait till winter and do something more time consuming. And cheap if possible.

Any advice or suggestion would be evry much appreciated!

Thanks, Joel

your better off doing a small s300 very streetable turbo and would be good for the mods toy have listed and make sure you get guages before you melt that engine.

ooh and you might want to re-gear to 4:10s

I am running a HX35 with 5x.012 injectors. I have more pump tuning to do, but so far I haven't yet been able to get past 1200 degrees running empty - no matter how hard I try.

The exhaust housing on the HX35 might to too tight/hot for towing heavy.

Overall, still a big improvment over the H1C.

Thanks for the reply's!

jdbigblue12v, is that turbo a bolt in, or is there some modification/fabrication involved?

u2slow, if I swapped the hx35 into my 16cm exhaust housing, would that be a big enuff housing for towing?

I run my hx35 with a maxed out pump, second gen lift pump with regulator, exhaust intake and 5x12's n it goes good pulls like it's got a ford on it's butt all the time climbing the mountains too.

You have gauges yet? Maxed out fuel screw and your not having high egt's with that load?

Oh, I forgot to put the guages in my signature. Yes, I have pre-turbo EGT, trans temp, and boost guages.

I just won a turbo off of ebay, a HE351cw. he351cw holset turbo 04 05 06 07 5.9 cummins | eBay

Now I have to learn how to operate the waste gate on this thing. Any ideas?

I think I can make an exhaust adapter on the lathe that I can weld to the exhaust pipe and clamp to the turbo.

How about the oil lines, does anyone know if they fit?

Thanks! Joel

the s300 should be a bolt onn turbo just have to clokc the compressor housing to line up to intercooler tubes. that ebay he351 is not a very trustworthy turbo and it takes alot of modification to run that turbo.

An he351cw will bolt right on just have to pull the pins and clock the housings i dont run a wastegate on mine with 6x12 injectors and your stock oil lines fit on it. Youll need the threaded bushing that goes into the bearing housing off your h1c. And thats a good turbo long as its tight id run it mine was a used unit to.
