Default 1995 dodge cranks but wont start

I drove my truck this morning and it fired up very nicely. When I arrive at my destination I shut it off. Just a couple of minutes later when I went to start it, it just cranks and wont start. We cracked open a high pressure fuel line and turned the key but now fuel came out. Is the fuel supposed to flow when its cranking, or only when it starts? If anyone can help me figure out what this is Id really appreciate it. My guess is just the fuel pump but I wanted to post on here before I go and buy or open up anything.thanks in advance.

sounds like the fuel shut off solenoid. turn the key on, and bump the starter. then check to see if the shutoff solenoid went up. all u have to do is pull up on the lever, if it moves up, then the solenoid is bad.

I just replaced the fuel shut off this winter, but decided to check it anyway and the fuel shut off is working properly. Im going to assume that the fuel pump is the culpret. Does anyone have a good way to test it? And any good source to get a replacement?

Mine did something similar. I found a small pun hole iny fuel line behind the engine. It was the line from the tank to the filter in the metal section at a elbow. So when it cranked it was sucking air and not fuel into the filter. Also check the low pressure fuel pump on the side on the engine. The last thing would e the fuel filter. They are Known for quitting without warning. Pull the filter and see how dirty it is and replace as needed.

Sorry, I tested my low pressure pump by simply removing the fuel filter and turning over real quick to see if any fuel runs out. That way a bad filter does not lead you to believe it is a bad pump. I

I just pulled the fuel filter and it was full of $#!t, so I thought the problem might be solved but when I turn the key and crank it fuel wont come out. Does this mean that my lift pump is bad? Or is it more likely my fuel pump?

Should be lift pump problem. The injector pump is after the filter. Now there is a filter next to the lift pump I believe inside the fuel heater. You can see it from under the truck on the left side bolted to the bottom of the block. It is a inline screen filter. Pull it and checkit and while it is off turn the engine over and see if the lift pump moves any fuel like that. Then you will know for sure.

I tested the pump and determined that it is the lift pump thats the problem. Im in the middle of installing it bit by bit for the last 2 weeks because I'm joining the coast guard and have stayed busy with that. This sounds stupid, but I took off the pump last week and just got back to it and cant find the plunger from the old pump. Im almost certain that it was on the pump when I pulled it but am second guessing myself. Will it go straight to the bottom of the oil pan if it did come off in the motor?

I just finished up installing the lift pump and (after 10 minutes of priming) fired right up! Thanks for the replies guys.
