Default chevy cummins swap questions

Alright. Here's my story I'm 19 and I love building crazy things. Right now I have a 2000 chevy half ton with a 496 big block with a fully built 4l80e behind it. I did a solid axle swap with ford dana 60s. Lifted about 10 inches. I'm sick of the big block I put in, so my question is what should I do next? I have about 5 grand to work with and a lot of tools and time. I love cummins I would really like to put a 12 valve p pump behind my trans. I know ill need the adapter plate and fly wheel. But what do I do about the wiring? I know you can get a stand alone harness for about a grand but is it worth it? I'm not worryed about the frame, its boxed in all the way back and has additional cross members for support. Any advice would be good. Thank you guys!

Screamin Seeman Off Road

and here are the treads i found they are 2500hd specific but all info should apply.

6bt in 2004 2500hd - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums

if your trans is built then it may be cheaper to get the adapter and tc than have to either find or build up another trans. i have heard the 4bt adapter out of bread trucks with cummins turbo 400s will work but puts it at an angle.

if you have the wheel base and can get a trans with engine as a package run a divorced case. np205 or the likes but i dunno how well it would do if you have a short wheel base. it may if you clock it down and have LOTS of lift.

If it was the OBS there would be no need to do a straight axle swap, they have one.

yeah my truck is the new style, its a 2000 ext cab shortbed stepside. it screems with that 496 in it. the motor and trans came out of a 03 suburban. i found a cool stand alone controller for it from compushift. looks like it works good, you can wire the trans so you can manually shift it with like paddle shifters if you want. i have every weekend and holidays off so i have plenty of time to do this. i have 1 more truck and 2 cars so its not like this is my daily driver.

look into a full manual vb im not sure but you may can get away from the need for a computer. 4L80E Performance Transmission from PATC ,4L80E
they make a 4l80e that requires no computer. actually they have kits and i think just about everything. you should contact them and see what they say even if you dont buy anything from them maybe you can at least gain info

I would rebuild that Cummins... there is NO TELLING what's going on in there until you tear it apart, especially check if the killer dowel pin mod has been done... I'm looking for a 12 valve for my 97 k2500, to do a swap probably this time next year... Hence why I'm combing the forums to figure out exactly what all I need to get it done right... I had my NV4500 rebuilt not too long ago, so I know I need a different input shaft but the wiring harness is what I'm worried about...

the 12 valve wiring is very simple. the only thing that may stump you is the alternator.

the alternater is no problem if you use a gm 1 wire it will work fine or you can use the dodge alternator and a alternator shop can get you an external regulator that bolts to the back of it and does away w/ the need for the computer controls.
