Default New 1997 Dodge Ram! some driving issues!

hey guys i just purchased this 1997 dodge ram 2500 4x4 ext cab Auto to move accross the country with..

There are a few bad things I've noticied that I'm really worried about and maybe you can point me towards a solution.

1st: If the engine is in neutral and I rev the engine I get a sputtering towards the upper 2k of the RPM Band, in order to try and fix it I installed an EGT(at manifold), boost and fuel pressure guage.
the fuel pressure looks fine so i'm not sure what the issue is.
I also replaced the OFV and had the injectors sent out and rebuilt..

2nd: this is a new issue that has started as i'm half way through my cross country trip..
the EGT's seems really hot like 850 while driving 55 on the flat freeway, and if there are any hills at all the car is just a dog, i have to slow down allot to keep the egt's below 1000..
i'm really worried about his and I don't know if its an engine or trans issue..

any tips or ideas here would really help!! thanks!

Upper range like 2500+ That would probably be your governor.

Check and make sure the valves are adjusted properly for starters, misadjusted valves will cause your high egts on hills (under load) and your sputtering at higher rpms, closely check the clearance on the exhaust valves. Spec is .010" intake and .020" exhaust.

I ran 850 EGT at 55 with the stock muffler, and needed valve lash. Now with a strait pipe exhaust and valve lash it runs at 650 degrees and I can pull up a mountain pass and stay at 1000, its the 1200 degree range you wanna stay outtuv
