Default new to cummins world... tools to show myself the ropes?

i own a 98 gmc short wheel base pu currently. i have already swapped the full suspension(2wd) for the suspension out of an 89 3/4 ton (8 lug) with the heavier gross weight suspension(basically 3500 w/o the gusset reinforcements from my understanding.... 7400 vs6800 lbs i think)

i have always wanted to swap the 4.3 v6 out for a cummins and finally picked up a 96 Dodge 2500 3/4 ton with everything minus the front left wheel assembly, also has new injectors! all for a grand flat!!!

i know that a body lift helps greatly to ease the process and i have one in the mail
i also have read a few swap thread and learned things like custom mounts are needed, something about flipping the altenator n ac compressor brackets or something or another... other than that a custom drive shaft and ...???

regardless id like to educate my self more on the cummins motor i have specificly other than whats available on wikipedia. what are common budget upgrades. what parts sell typically of the truck because i really dont need anything other than the motor and tranny out of it. what to watch out for as far as factory hiccups go... ect ect

any help would be appretiated, im not looking for a hand out of info.. just where to did specificly

also i know i cant spell for **** and use ... and () alot... sorry

Welcome to DB

If you need conversion info, post a thread over in the diesel conversions section. Common problems of the 12v Cummins? Do a search on the KDP. What parts can you sell off the old truck? Really about anything, the rear end should be worth a good chunk.
