Default Mack plug ?

I was just reading diesel power mag's tripple threat build with the 1300.00 Garmon kit. Anyhow they wrote that it is easier to install the rack plug while the timing cover is off. Since I will be tabbing my kdp this weekend I was wondering if I should Install the plug while it is apart. Do you guys think it is worth it on a fairly stock truck accept for the free mods in my sig? Thanks

Or shimming the current plug with a washer?

Don't shim the plug, buy the 2095 Mack Plug, they are only about $12. The only reason it is easier with the timing cover off is because you can loosen the Fuel Pump easier to push it back far enough to swap the plugs. You could always cut the timing case, Ive seen some people do it. Where they dremel the case away til it opens up to that larger area. It won't hurt it, it just doesn't look as clean.

I ended up calling a diesel shop looking for a plug and the guy there said he did not have any plugs but he would bench my pump for 150.00 to check and make sure everything was working right and that he would tune it for the original 150.00 plus 150.00 in parts. He said 300 or 400 hp tune. Does that sound right or is he selling me bs ?
