Default Your Input on a light performance rebuild

Ive got a '98 12v with an '01 NV5600/241DLD.

The truck is pushing 300k and leaks oil from every gasket on the motor. Rather than regasket it, im going to pull it and have it rebuilt.

I have no idea where it sits power wise now, but ive got

Aurora 3000 turbo,
Bosch 350 marine injectors,
4" MBRP/ diamondeye exhaust,
cheesy K&N intake elbow/filter

id guess somewhere around +/- 400hp/700ft lbs?

I can pin my 45psi boost gauge pretty easy. timing is about 1 degree over stock.
stock fuel plate is pushed forward, and my EGTs stay around 12-1300 pulling a load.

this truck needs to be reliable first and foremost. it pulls about 12k daily, and sees alot of hwy miles. I currently get about 15 mpg, and Id like to see better, or at least maintain 15.

I want to build this engine to handle some things it will see in the future:

O-ring the head
ARP head studs
heavier exhaust springs (exhaust brake)
aftermarket intake horn
KDP fix
ability to safely advance the timing

Ive got a rebuild kit that will bore it .20 over. I want to think this out, make sure I have my ducks in a row.

My truck was an auto when I bought it, and after about 3 trans, I swapped in a '01 NV5600 I had rebuilt.

The pump is the 180hp auto pump.

I know there is some pump work I should be doing, but I dont know much about the internals of a P7100 pump, aside from simple fuel plate adjustments.

new performance fuel plate?

Im thinking I should do a little higher gsk, but im unclear on the ramifications. again, I want it to be reliable.

What am I leaving out? what else should I be considering? I anticipate spending about $3k-$5k for the machine work, parts (not including the rebuild kit, already purchased), and engine accessories that i plan to replace.

While you have the head off and in the machine shop you might as well have them port and pollish it then rebuild it with new hardware. Better (3 Piece) exhaust mainifold like a ATS 3 piece. As far as the pump, you can get higher flow delivery valves and run a 3 or 4k gsk, tune your afc and adjust fuel plate more if needed. I would look into a bigger/better clutch also.

Cheap paint on it , I'm slowly cooking mine back to bare cast. DEI exhaust wrap paint is actually a pretty good coating. After wrapping my DP I went ahead and painted the exhaust housing on my S300, idk if it's still holding up or not, but before the turbo blanket it was still hanging in there. I did too much all at once to make any claims of what I did/didn't gain. None the less, I still think its a quality item

Well, I got my motor back from the shop.

In addition to the standard rebuild, I did the following:

.20 over bore/decked block
O ringed head
ARP head studs
65# intake/exhaust valve springs
KDP
rotating assembly balanced/blueprinted w/ dual disc SB clutch
oil galley ports/freeze plugs pinned
Colt Cams big stick w/ billet gear retainer

Im now looking for replacement:

oil cooler/ oil cooler lines
all the oddball coolant lines
Water pump

Im going to have my pump rebuilt too. this is my plan thus far:

4k gsk
191 DV's
some kind of fuel plate

Also interested in hearing about performance gains from aftermarket intake plenum and exhaust header.

As far as a plate goes I would recommend just grinding your own to get a smooth fuel curve vs. the sporadic fueling of a aftermakert plate. The water pump you can just get a napa one or a Cummins one too I guess. As for all lines I think you stuck with getting Cummins ones.

The manifold will lower egts between 100-150 degrees and increase spool up on the turbo alittle bit as well. The Intake plenum will help smooth out the air flow going into the cylinder and well as freeing up some restrictions as well.

OK, getting ready to start this party.

I think I need to get rid of these 370 marine injectors. im sick of the hazing, and i think there are more efficient units out there that will give me optimum power with my current turbo/exhaust setup.

What say yall?

EDIT: forgive my ignorance, but do I need to replace the entire injector or can I just use replacement nozzles?
