Default 97 5 speed 4x4

Hey guys I am going to look at and more than likely buy a 97 12v 5 speed 4x4. I have a first gen and not very familiar with the second gens. I know the basics and what to look for like the 5th gear on the nv4500 and such. I guess my question is, what are the things to look for that after owning it for awhile I am going to find anyways (tricks of the trade).

In know pretty much everything as far as the motor, trans, transfer case and all of that. Im just talking about little things, like my first gen vent windows leaked and didnt know it until I bought it and washed it. Places where it might be rusting that isnt very visable unless you are really looking for it, stuff like that.

Try out the AC and switch it from vent to floor to defrost and back to vent.

Check the rocker panels, and the bottoms of the doors! They are notorious for rotting there

You better jump on that thing, I was just looking at it and thinking about getting it for the wife!
Price is right, if it runs and drives good, I wouldn't think twice.

Already bought it Nice truck, wish the dash wasnt cracked under the dash mat though. Going to fix up the head liner and shampoo the carpet then start under the hood and say goodbye to more of my money.

Glad to hear you got it! My brother has a 95 cummins, and some of the best mods are removing the turbo silencer ring, moving the fuel plate, straight pipe exhaust (BEST MOD EVER), flip up tow mirrors, ranch hand full replacement bumpers, pioneer stereo, but the most common thing (I think), is front end re-alignment. We did it to his, and it is WAY better, but the steering still has some play to it, because the steering box needs to be replaced. Keep us updated on the truck and your mods! We would all love to hear about it!
