I'm starting to get close to betting the miss in my truck is caused by timing as my cousin had to replace the timing gears and the cover before. He gave me very limited information. I changed fuel filter and bypassed fuel heater. And with the afc housing turned all the way up it'll black smoke and quit missing as soon as it hit's boost.

Thinking my boost isn't coming in soon enough to get the afc moving to get fuel to make it run properly in the mid range.

How much are the kits? Does anybody lend or rent them? How much should I get charged for a shop to do it?

If I get the timing done how much should I go? 17 degree's is sticking in my head for some reason.

I have been looking around and most shops charge around $200 to do timing +or-$50. Talk to the mechanic and play dumb at first, if they try to "yank yer chain", just walk away. Make sure the shop will fix it if the timing slips.

 

You could always buy the timing tools yourself for $200 and then you have an unlimited opportunities to time your truck in the future. And don't go above 16.5* if you dont have head studs, or you'll have a good risk at blowing your head gasket.

And timing a pump is a very easy task, just time consuming.
