Default tcase shifter linkage

is there any procedure for putting the linkage arm back onto the stud that stick out the side of the tcase? long story short tranny and tcase are both rebuildt. and the nut that holds the linkage arm onto that shaft fell off. tried putting it back on with new nut. and 4x4 does not engage. and theres a grinding noise when putting it back into "2wd" from "4wd". any thoughts?

if I remember correctly it is just a rubber gromet that the stud slides into on the Transfer case... It is kinda a pain, some sort of grease and a lot of force usually gets em in
