What exactly is the prescreen for. Does it really have to be there or can I take it out and just put the bottom of the bowl back on? I've tried cleaning it. And my truck is still starving for fuel. And no one around here carries the kits.

Yeah, you can pull it out. I'd recommend finding a replacement though. It's cheap and easy.. kinda like most of the girls in your life! jk...
