Where do i start on a stock 96?

I have a 99 24v but i just bought a 96 5 speed x cab 4x4. going to pick it up today! i dont know where to start with this truck i keep hearing about turning the pump up or star wheel, i would like some info on this thanks guys! the 24v's are alot easyer to do i guess your plug my edge in and go not with the new one!

Dowl pin should be first along with gauges but i assume your wanting power. "Assuming" you have everthing to back this up, Pull the plate, do the afc mods, and tune the afc. Governor springs, and timing are also major ones on the list.
