Default Swapped turbo but confused

Ok so I swapped off my wh1c off of my 95. To a hx35 of of my cousins 96 cummins with same mods except he was hitting 45 psi with it an I'm only hittin 36. Why is it so different? Oh an he had stock timing at the time

45 is way too high for a 35 anyways, 36 is still pushing it, after about 32-35 they are just pushing superheated air into your engine, and being overspooled. do you have the same pyro guage? might be reading different for some reason.

We put a different compressor wheel on it but I can't remember the specs. We have the same gauges same tranny rear ends mine is just an ext cab an his is a single. He has his Pyro in the wrong spot tho, it's after the turbo not pre turbo in the manifold like mine. Would a 215 pump vs 175 pump make that much of a difference?

well the compressor and pump differences could be that much! depending on the compressor wheel that you put on it. but like i said with that much boost running through it the life of the turbo is drasticly reduced! making power isn't just boost pressure, its cfm. a bigger turbo will push more air at say 20psi boost than the hx35 will at 20psi. thats where the power comes from.

Oops didn't clarify that we put the comp wheel when it was on the 96. So it would of been all pump differences. And yes I already knew that it was hard on them but I was wondering why it make such a difference. Also what's the difference between a wh1c an hx35? They looked the exact same but the Id plate says different. What holds up to more boost? This is just temporary till I get a 62/74/14 an then build twins from there I believe that was the right specs. Thanks for the help

whe wh1c is old technology, just doesn't flow as much as the 35. and if memory serves me right the exhaust housing is larger than the 35 making it spool slower but not sure onthat

There's a pretty good jump in fueling from the 175 to 215 pump. It could easily account for some of the boost.
