Heck, if you're in this area of Texas I'll have you weld mine.
Where are you located?

It would be great to meet up and get it welded but I'm just too far South. I'll torque the heck out of it with 263 permanent loctite and install that steel retainer sold by active transmission.

Id be curious to kno if they hold ive had stainless tacks crack before due to stress and thats when i started welding them all the way around and heating them a tad while they cooled down for a very slow cool down, i would think those little tabs that fit inside would just break off, but ill wait and see how they do b4 i get away from welding them all the way around, i kno i lug the hell outa my truck in 5 gear pulling my travel travel, tht tranny is stout but sux for towing, be nice to hve 2 more gears....

Mine come loose at about 60k and I tightened back up with a pipe wrench and put a whole lot of muscle into it. Put a clutch in at 130k and checked the nut while I was at it and it was still really tight. Done a couple of other trucks and only had problems with one. It came off 3 or 4 times in 20k and it did no towing at all. Put a brand new nut on it and had no problems after 100k.

Its all in how you drive your truck, people put fuel plates in and power mods and dont downshift near as much as they should and lug in 5th gear, ive put alottttttttttt of towing miles on mine total gvw of around 29,000lbs, my truck weighs 11k and trailer 18k, if i hvent busted my shaft running over 900ft lbs of torque all 5th gear driving i dont think i will just wish i had 2 extra gears for towing 5sp sucks having tht much wieght behind u when u get into rough country

Same here. If my truck is not lugging down then I wont downshift. Make her work for that fuel. Use her like a borrowed mule.

well welding it could weakin it if you had the heat up to far and got crazy with it. we have 6 nv4500 trannys in dodges with over 200k on all. every one of them has had the nut back off everyone weve tack welded one tranny has 140k on that repair with no trouble. anouther thing is to makesure that it isnt run low on oil

I recently bought a nv4500 reman from Smart Parts Automotive. The told me they do one of the best 5th gear upgrades in the business. The salesman told me they use extended splines and the aftermarket lock nut. i had gone through three of these before i bought this one. I have had it for almost 5 months now and is still driving perfect. Here is ther url if you want to check them out: NV4500 Transmission for Sale
