Started my truck this morning and the starter hung up and kept dragging. I had to disconect the battery leads to kill it. My question is it in the starter or key switch or something else. thanks in advance.

 

starter contacts there easy to change and cheep check out Larry B's

 

Dont do that too many more times or you'll burn up your fuel shutoff solenoid!

ok so i need to rebuild the starter. So the solinoid contacts are pitted and stickin.

 

My 2001 Dodge 2500 Cummins just started doing the same thing this past Sunday. It was pretty scary, we also had to take the cables off the batteries to get the truck to turn off. Did it end up being the starter, ignition switch or something else? Thanks.

 

That post is way old. But most probable it was the starter contacts.

Also, MANDIE77578 this is the 12 valve section, you want the 24 valve.
