Default who here runs home made bio?

im seriousley considering making my own bio diesel in my garage, but i have a few questions that i really cant get any information on. is the power loss considerable, and the most important thing im trying to figure out is if it black smokes the same, i dont want a truck that puts out a weird grayish smoke and looks liek a gas truck burning oil... i know the smoke decreases on high pressure common rail diesels, but im thinking it burns the same in these old p7100 trucks. at 60cents a gallon ill just put big injectors in the truck if need be...

yes you can notice a power difference, my exes dad used to run it, until it plugged up every filter and pump and injector, (he tried making diesel out of cooking grease, he didnt filter it good enough), now the smoke thing i dont know since he lost power, his truck was completely stock

I have been making biodiesel for 5 years and have 30,000 + miles on it. I don't notice any loss of power from it and my truck loves it. Not into the smoke thing so I can't speak on that but as far as downside, there are a couple.

One is that it is work until you get your system streamlined and the second is when winter comes and you have to actually buy some petro diesel to keep from jellin - now that hurts

i made and run quite a bit of bio diesel. if made right it is pretty good stuff. quite a bit of work in it. i washed every batch and that gets tricky. i run all summer last year in my 08. it has a little bit of power loss but not real bad. my 91 smoked about the same. the bad thing about it is you will have dogs follow you and stick there heads in the exhaust

It is work-that's the 1st thing I tell anyone who thinks I am getting something for nothing. But once you get set up it is not too bad. Its a lot like making beer- I just figured I spend a lot more on fuel than I do on beer so thats the direction I took.

It has higher lubricity especially since low sulfur was mandated.
