Default Bad 4th gear syncro's, whats the prefered method of changing them?

Got my truck going a few weeks ago and found out the 4th gear syncro's are completely gone, I have to let the truck come down to an idle with the clutch pushed in and then quickly pop it into gear to minimize grinding.

How do you guys service the transmission, Should I just leave the bellhousing on the engine and remove the transmission (since I have a brand new clutch)? What kind of special tools will I need to disassemble the transmission? The transmision seems to work fine other than shifting into 4th, so do you think it would be safe to just change out all the syncro's and put it back together (it has the upgrade 5th gear nut already)?

Thanks for any help.
