Question 12 VALVE FUEL PLATE

VEHICLE INFO:

95' DODGE RAM 2500 CUMMINS DIESEL 12V

181,000 ORIGINAL

PROBLEM:

TRUCK IS HAVING A HARD TIME STARTING. PREVIOUS OWNER STATED THAT IT HAS ALLWAYS DONE THIS. WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO TURN IT OVER YOU MUST GIVE IT A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL TO DO SO, (NEED TO PEDAL TO METAL FOR IT TO START).

IT SEEMS TO ME IT COULD BE SOMETHING AS JUST BUMPONG THE FUEL PLATE OR IDLEING SCREW, IF IT HAS ONE. THIS IS MY FIRST 95 SO IM SURE THERE ARE A FEW THING DIFFERENT. IF I DO TURN IT UP WILL I HAVE TO CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE ???

THANK YOU

While someone is cranking the engine over check the fuel shut off solinoid to make sure it is all the way up-- if it isn't it could be a weak relay --had this happen to me replaced the relay now it fires right off.

me and a friend a mine had pretty much the same problem, when we got to lookin our trucks only idled at around 500 rpm, we turned the idle adjustment up thats right behind the pump to around 800 r 900 and she fires right up with the first bump of the key

This has nothing to do with the fuel plate. As 95Ky5.9 said, I would bet my last dollar bumping up your idle will fix this.

When it does start, what rpm does it idle at?

Heres how to adjust it - http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/adj...d_Gen-Idle.htm

Thats another possibility but I would adjust the idle first since its free.
