Default Fuel tank mounting hardware?

Hi,
can anyone with a 1997 Dodge Cummins ext cab long bed tell me if the plastic fuel tank has any kind of padding under the metal tank mount straps? Or do the metal straps go against the sides of the plastic tank? I bought this truck with a jury rigged mounting and the old owner bought new metal straps, but never mounted them and it seems strange that dodge would put metal straps against a plastic tank. Any help is appreciated as I cannot find any info anywhere.

I took an old inner tube and cut out a couple pieces to go between the tank and straps

mine are metal on plastic just look at another truck but you have to think the fuel tank dosent do a lot of shifting aroung its held tight

Thanks Guys.
I finally called the dealer and even though they don't like to look things up, they said the straps go directly against the plastic tank. I think I like the inner tube idea.

The inner tube idea probably isn't a bad idea, but it is not fuel resistant and could shift if the straps ever get loose. I layed a couple beads of black silicone on them, reassembled and let it sit overnight before final tightening last time I had one out.
