Default Timing and KDP

So I'm looking at tabbing my kdp here soon.

I think this is probably a stupid question but I don't know the answer myself.

When I take my Timing Case cover off will I be able to bump my timing up to 18* from there or will I have to go through the pump like most people do?

I'm not completely sure how any of this works I just know theres some gears in there... one for my cam, one for my crank, and I hope one for my Injection pump?

yes you can do it with the cover off, that will allow you to really make sure the pump shaft is clean before you put the gear back on.
