my 97 diesel acts like it ran out of fuel, which it may have because the fuel gauge does not work. I loosened the injector connections, turn the starter for 30 seconds and repeated this several times without getting fuel to all injectors. It won't start. I cannot hear the lift pump but this model may have the mechanical lift fump. I tried priming the pump several times for nearly an hour. Still won't start.

Any suggestions?

I take it the low fuel warnnig light is on the fritz along with the gauge?

The gauge in my 1st Gen has been MIA for a couple years now, but the low fuel warning light stll works, so I haven't been too quick to address it...

The light does come on but it is not accurate so I keep track of miles. I did ad five gals then loosened the injector connectors, pumped the manual primer, cranked the engine several times without getting it started.

Default Cummins fuel system and lift pump.

Hi Dude 57

I just finished writing a 3 1/2 page article on the Cummins fuel system and lift pump. This in depth article, covers the basics of the lift pump and why it's effciency is VERY LOW. This translates into low fuel pressure at WOT. Article number two will deal with the details, on what you can do to make make your Cummins fuel system more efficient. Having higher fuel flow and fuel pressure will make HP improvements much easier. I hope you like the article!

Feel free to send this article to your diesel friends. I want these tests to be in the hands of diesel owners and performance entusiasts.

All you have to do, to read this important article, is to copy and paste this link into your address bar.

1.47GPM for the 2nd Gen LP? That is total horseshit. I think you need redo the numbers.

Your credibility with me just went flying out the window at hypersonic speed. That's the speed of sound X 1.47 gallons per minute.

Default Cummins lift pump

NadirPoint

Apparently I upset you. What the article said was the 2nd gen lift pump has the "capacity" to flow 1.48 GPM. That is the calculated GPM flow. In reality, the pump will only flow .59 GPM at peak flow.

Not upset. Just amazed anyone could say something that ridiculous.

.59 GPM? You do mean (G)allons (P)er (M)inute, right?
