Default fuel shutoff

i have a 96 3500 12v. i have been trying ti figure out why my truck seems like it is lacking in power. i have a manual fuel shutoff cable because it doesnt have a silenoide or even a mounting bracket. when i push the cable in the truck will start just fine. yesterday it crossed my mind to check how far the shutoff was pushed up. i pulled on it and it moved another 2 inches forward, and when i drove it it seemed like it had more power. is this possible that it was starving for fuel or was it just wishfull thinking?

yes, the shutdown must be pulled all the way up other wise it will cost you fueling and power

this exact same thing is happening to me. it used to work fine. trust me you are starving your truck for fuel. i just have a cable on the floor i pull to shut it off. so i am almost positive that between the dirt from my shoes on the floor and the dirt from going through a few big mud puddles the cable has just got full of of dirt because it is one small cable inside a larger one so dirt can get in. I am about to pull the cable and give it a good clean and lube and it should work again. ill tell you if it works.

it definitely makes a difference, thats part of the reason i went back to a real shutoff. I used to have the exact same problem, i thought it seemed sluggish and it turned out i didn't have the cable in all the way. You could also put some spings on it to hold it open, but I honestly wouldn't risk the runaway risk again, i took mine off just thinking about what could happen.
