Sad ruined my freshly rebuilt trans??

well i just finished my auto to manual swap on my '98 12 valve. swapped in a nv4500.... but i took it for a test drive and of all the things i had to do in the swap i "overlooked" filling my trans with oil... i was sold a ready to go "filled" nv4500 but here i am.

so its stuck in a parking lot and it feels like 1st and 2nd syncros are f'd. dosen't want to shift in or out of those gears very easily. should i fill er with fluid and try to drive it... or cut my losses and pull it out and tear into it.

pull the inspection/pto cover off one side and look in it, see if the gears look EFFED. If they don't, fill it with amsoil and drive it till it breaks.
Pull the cover and look around a bit BEFORE you put fluid in it, you basically lose all your fluid if you want to look in it without pulling it out and looking through the top cover.

That amsoil shouldn't run you more than $50. Overfill it by a quart as Quad4x4 suggests. It does quiet it down quite a bit. Pop out the shifter and fill it through there rather than trying to pump it in through the port on the side.

If it's possible pull the pto cover and take a look. If it looks ok, fill it up with cheapo tranny fluid, drive a few miles, drain it all out to get all the metal/junk out, then fill up with some good synthetic trans fluid.

Sounds like something stupid I would forget to do

I'll have to disagree with the cheap fluid, only because the brass parts in the nv4500 HATE anything but casterol, amsoil, or the royal purple. I suppose you can go for it, but rinse it out with something before you put real fluid in it.

so at both my local chevy and dodge stealerships i was quoted $36 and $29 a quart.... so im hoping the ams oil is cheaper. who sells amsoil, dealers? napa autozone checker... on thier websites it only lists names of individual dealers.

call somewhere that sells sled parts, ams is popular there. you can also order direct from ams, shipping is really reasonable. if you were closer i'd hook you up.
