are you swapping carriers? I'm not 100% sure on the dana 70 but on the Dana 80 the carrier split is 4.10 and up/3.55 and down ( I may have the up downs confused) The 3.55 and 4.10s use the same carrier on the Dana 60.
The Dana 60,70,80 uses shims to set the pinion depth and backlash on the R&P there are NO crushable spacers. The manual calls for a case spreader to get the carrier in and out of the housing. However some people have gotten them in and out with a few prybars and dead blow hammers. Its up to you. If you don't feel like buying one you can usually rent one. They are about 250-300 dollars if you buy one.
