Default Fan clutch is shot; cause for poor mileage?

My clutch fan is shot on my truck. The diesel shop says that is why I am getting poor mileage because it never shuts off, and these fans take a LOT of power to turn.

Does this sound about right?
I'm going to do an elec. fan coversion if thats the case.

If it never turns off then yes it will cause lower than normal mileage. Normally when they are shot they don't lock up at all and you can stop them with your hand.

Oh ya? Thats odd. Mine just never shuts off. Takes forEVER for the truck to warm up sometimes. Even when its warm.

How much mileage (i know.. tought question) would you expect to be dropped with the fan not shutting off and the clutch being shot?

Being locked up solid and never turning off is different than having one which works correctly and turns off when not needed. I'd expect possibly 2mpg at the most though from that to electric fans. With your driving style I'd only expect 1/4 as said though.
