its called "floating" and is BAD for a syncro tranny. if you keep it long enough your syncros will fail and will have to be replaced. you will start having trouble getting into gear while sitting still as a pickup tranny does ot have a clutch brake to stop the internals. i know several people that have had trouble with their syncros on dodges even without floating. hope this helps

I shifted like that in my dodge dakota once in awhile because my syncros were out and it was a pain to shift. I never could quite get on to down shifting with out the clutch in that thing though

i hardly ever use the clutch in my 96
